Fraxel® Laser Resurfacing for San Jose

Fraxel® Dual 1550/1927 Laser Skin Resurfacing in Mountain View & the Bay Area

We are excited to be one of the first practices in the San Jose Bay Area to offer the Fraxel® Dual 1550/1927 laser skin resurfacing system to our patients. This revolutionary innovation allows the areas treated to exhibit better skin texture, more even pigmentation, less wrinkling and fine lines, as well as some tissue tightening. It is Dr. Ereso’s treatment of choice for age spots, especially on the face and hands, as well as melasma and freckling. There is minimal “down” time (1-2 days of mild redness), and Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing does not require general anesthesia or intravenous sedation.

Benefits of the Fraxel® Laser

The Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 laser is engineered to treat across a variety of conditions, on all skin types and anywhere on the body. Since it delivers predictable epidermal turnover with each treatment, nearly all patients see immediate improvement. And due to collagen remodeling, those results are enhanced over weeks and months. Numerous clinical publications report that the Fraxel® treatment provides more consistent, successful results than any other procedure for treating acne scars. When it comes to acne scars, Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 treatment succeeds where other procedures have failed. The Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 laser can reach deep into the dermis to stimulate collagen remodeling while keeping surrounding tissue intact for maximum healing and minimal discomfort or downtime.

Features of the Fraxel® Laser

All Fraxel® laser products use the same patented platform of technological intelligence – ensuring the highest efficacy, safety and flexibility. Since we can adjust the energy level, treatment level and number of passes, we can tailor each treatment to your needs. Key features of the Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 system:

  • Dual fiber laser technology
Choose between the single or dual fiber laser system. Either the deep penetrating Erbium 1550 fiber laser or the more superficial 1927 Thulium fiber laser is easily selected.
  • Intelligent Optical Tracking® system
The technology adjusts to hand speed and ensures uniform treatment, distributing pulses evenly while maintaining optimal spacing to reduce heat. The result is a treatment that’s safe, effective, and fast, with a full-face treatment typically completed in 20-25 minutes.
  • Optimized spot size based on chosen parameters
The system optimizes the microscopic spot size for each energy level, maximizing penetration while minimizing bulk heating in surrounding tissue. As a result, we typically see improvements in mild to moderate photodamage with minimal downtime.
  • More comfortable procedure
Superficial targeting of the Thulium wavelength and focal cooling improves your comfort.
  • Fraxel® Roller Tips
Cool roller tips allow focal cooling of target treatment sites, improving your comfort.
  • Faster treatment times
Improved scanner design increases procedure speed by 25 percent.
  • Safety
The laser fires only when the handpiece touches the skin and when the footswitch is engaged. And to prevent overtreatment, the number of microscopic treatment zones (MTZs) is matched to the speed of application. This built-in safety and ease of use make the Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 system a flexible option for our practice.

How the Fraxel® Laser Technology Works

The Fraxel® Laser treatment concept is ingenious. For every square inch of treated area, only approximately 30-50 percent or “fractions” of the tissue is actually exposed to the laser light producing heat and tissue changes to the deeper structures without injuring the skin surface. Most of the area surrounding the lasered tissue is left undisturbed allowing for rapid healing and minimum downtime. You should expect to see improvement in the texture, color, and fine lines in the treated areas over a period of 1-3 months. Usually, 1 or 2 treatments are required to treat pigment problems with the use of the Fraxel® 1927 wavelength. 3 to 5 treatments are required to achieve the desired results to improve, skin texture, pore size, sun damage, fine lines, and acne scars using the Fraxel® 1550 wavelength. Clinical improvement may not be apparent until 2-3 treatments have been completed. The treatments will be spaced 4 weeks apart.

What Areas Can Be Treated by Fraxel® Laser Treatment

One of the most exciting aspects of Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing is that almost any area of the body can be treated. Typically, an entire face, neck, and chest can be treated in one session. The hands and entire upper extremity can be treated, as well as the legs, ankles, and feet! Another fabulous advantage of the Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing is that skin of “all colors” may be treated, including Asian, Mediterranean, Hispanic, African-American, and Caucasian!

The full potential of Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing has not yet been fully unleashed. For patients who are seeking more comprehensive skin treatment, please contact our Mountain View cosmetic plastic surgery practice to obtain more information about this exciting treatment.

Comparison to Other Procedures Targeting the Same Area

Compared to other forms of ablative laser skin resurfacing, Fraxel® is less aggressive on the skin. Only a portion of the skin is injured – and in a very precise pattern of narrow columns – instead of uniformly ablating all of the skin. Leaving columns of untreated skin intact in between the treated skin helps the targeted area heal faster with less recovery downtime. There is also a reduction in the risk of treatment side effects.

Fractionated skin resurfacing may be less intensive than other forms of laser skin resurfacing, but the results are still excellent. Our patients love the smooth, even, clear quality of their skin after Fraxel® treatment.

Consultation for Laser Skin Resurfacing

During your Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing consultation, you will have the chance to ask Dr. Ereso questions about the treatment, its results, and your candidacy. You may wish to inquire about his training and experience with this advanced technology, or what the laser can specifically do for your skin type and needs. It is also useful to ask what will be required of you before and after treatment to achieve the ideal outcomes.

Preparation for Laser Treatment

Once your Fraxel® treatment is booked, Dr. Ereso or Nurse Iwona will ask you to take several special precautions. First, you will need to temporarily discontinue any medications or products that cause photosensitivity. Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds. Use gentle cleansers and moisturizers in anticipation of your treatment. Postpone any regularly scheduled BOTOX® or filler injections, chemical peels or other professional treatments. If you have a history of herpes simplex (oral cold sores) or shingles outbreaks, you may need to take additional precautions (e.g., starting an antiviral medication) prior to treatment – Dr. Ereso will advise in more detail according to your circumstances.

On the day of your appointment, please arrive with clean skin. Refrain from applying any creams, serums or fragrances to the skin that will be lasered.

Fraxel® Laser Treatment Details

We ask that you arrive at Pearl-Ereso Plastic Surgery Center two hours prior to your scheduled treatment. A topical anesthetic will be liberally applied to the planned treatment areas. This will be removed approximately 2 hours later. The laser will then be used to thoroughly treat all of the planned areas. You will feel some heat during Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing, which will be minimized by a chilled spray applied to the treated sites. Redness and some stinging follow.

Recovery/Results

Iced compresses and elevation significantly reduce discomfort during recovery. Redness usually disappears in several hours but may last for 1-3 days. Normal activities may usually be resumed in less than 24 hours. If you are having the Fraxel® 1927 wavelength used to treat pigmentation on the face, you will experience “bronzing” of all of the pigmented areas treated on your face. This will flake off approximately 5 days after the procedure. If the chest, hands and legs are treated, the ‘bronzing” will flake off 10-14 days after treatment. You will have very little pain after using the Fraxel® 1927 wavelength.

Laser Resurfacing Risks/Safety

There are risks involved with any elective cosmetic procedure. When you trust your care to Dr. Ereso or Nurse Iwona, you can feel confident that they are trained and experienced in the technology and will give you detailed instructions to lower the chance of complications.

Fraxel® actually minimizes many of the risks of traditional laser skin resurfacing by only treating a fraction of the skin. Because Fraxel® is not as aggressive as other ablative lasers, there is a lower risk of burns, bleeding, scarring and/or hyperpigmentation.

If you have specific questions about the safety of Fraxel® technology, Dr. Ereso and Nurse Iwona encourage you to ask during your in-person consultation.

Complementary Procedures

Laser skin resurfacing with Fraxel® often complements the results of facelift, blepharoplasty and other surgical procedures. Surgical procedures lift and tighten the facial skin and muscles and laser skin resurfacing enhances the tone and texture of the skin. The procedures are not performed concurrently, and Dr. Ereso and his team can recommend how to time surgery and laser skin resurfacing for the safest and most lasting results.

Laser Patient Reviews/Testimonials

“I was looking for Fraxel® 1550 Treatment for my acne scarring. My first initial contact was with Jez. She is definitely a rarity to find. She is very professional, personable, friendly and very detailed about what to expect in my consultation.

I have already visited 3 other places prior to my consultation. At this point, I was a bit discouraged because this is a pretty intense treatment that can have possible side effects and it did not seem like any of these Doctors cared. I finally sat with Dr Ereso. One thing I truly appreciated was that he actually cared about the after effects of the Fraxel® 1550 Treatment. He went over everything and he made very clear that he truly cares about the results. He was so amazing that he wanted to test the lower jaw of my face to avoid any discoloration.

Shelly is also very kind and shares her experiences that make me feel comfortable undergoing the treatment. She makes my visit very nice and friendly. Everything ended up going very well with the help with Dr Ereso, Jez and Shelly. I am truly happy with my results.

Thank you, Jez, Shelly and Dr Ereso for truly changing my skin and having that special glow for my wedding day. I truly am appreciative!”
