Is Laser Skin Resurfacing Right for You?

Are you looking for a non-surgical way to minimize the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, sun damage or acne scarring on your face and neck? You have several options at Pearl-Ereso Plastic Surgery Center, including traditional laser skin resurfacing and Fraxel laser resurfacing. Here, Bay Area plastic surgeon Dr. Alexander Ereso explains whether laser skin resurfacing might be right for you.

You Have Mild to Moderate Skin Imperfections

Laser skin resurfacing can minimize the appearance of the following imperfections:

  • areas of sun damage
  • uneven pigmentation
  • wrinkles and fine lines
  • poor skin texture

Our team can examine your area(s) of concern and determine whether laser skin resurfacing is likely to deliver the results you want.

Your Skin Has Good Elasticity

Although laser skin resurfacing does have a mild tissue tightening effect (especially in the lower eyelid area), it does not tighten significantly loose skin. Facelift or another surgical procedure may be a more suitable option under those circumstances.

You Do Not Have Active Acne

Laser skin resurfacing is a safe and effective way to smooth out shallow scars from acne. However, it is not good for use on areas with active acne, as the laser may exacerbate the irritation.

You Are Seeking a Non-Surgical Solution

If you want clearer, more radiant skin without the time and financial commitment of surgery, laser skin resurfacing is a great compromise. You can still see results without having to take time off from work. The downtime is much shorter after laser skin resurfacing than it is after facial rejuvenation surgery.

How Laser Skin Resurfacing Works

Traditional laser skin resurfacing vaporizes the top layer of damaged skin cells and reveals fresh, healthy skin. As opposed to treating the entire surface layer of skin cells, Fraxel laser skin resurfacing only treats a “fraction” of the tissue. The laser creates micro injuries in the skin, leaving tissue intact between the injuries. This fractional pattern encourages rapid healing. Compared to traditional laser skin resurfacing, Fraxel achieves similar results, however, the fractional pattern means less downtime versus traditional laser skin resurfacing.  Dr. Ereso has been offering Fraxel treatments to the Bay Area for many years and your Fraxel treatment will always be personally performed by the doctors themselves.

Is Your Diet Aging You?

No one wants to look old before their time. Many wonder whether diet and nutrition play a role in the aging process. In this blog post, Drs. Samuel Pearl and Alexander Ereso share insights into the role food plays in one’s cosmetic appearance.

Food and Aging

The food that you eat can affect your appearance. A nutritionally poor diet may cause one to appear older than they are. The good news is that changing your diet is easy to do. Eating healthier foods can help your skin to look younger and make your body feel better.

Foods high in sugar and fat can not only lead to an unhealthful appearance, but can also lead to serious health conditions such as diabetes, fatty liver disease, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular problems. Ditching the fat and sugar in favor of healthy foods like fruits and vegetables will have a positive effect on your skin and its underlying structures.

Foods to Avoid

High-Fat Meats

Processed meat products such as sausage, hot dogs, and pepperoni are usually very high in fat content. Nitrates and saturated fat found in these type of meats can lead to gastrointestinal inflammation, high blood pressure and water retention.

Fried Foods

Potato chips, French fries, and chicken wings are almost always deep fried in cooking oil that contains unhealthy fats. When eating out at restaurants, try to avoid fried items – asked for grilled or baked options instead.

Alcohol

While small amounts of alcohol may have beneficial health effects, overindulging in beer, wine, or spirits can lead to weight gain and liver issues. Alcohol dehydrates the body, and hydration is very important to skin elasticity and health.

Dessert

Most desserts are full of sugar and fat. The human body has not evolved to tolerate high levels of processed sugar. High blood sugar levels lead to an insulin spike reaction in the body, which responds by storing the excess sugar as fat.

Healthy Food Choices

We advise our patients to follow the “Mediterranean” diet – that is, a diet high in healthy fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean meats and dairy, legumes, and fish.

SilkPeel with Dermalinfusion

Are you self-conscious about skin imperfections or flaws, or find your complexion lackluster? If so, you may be a great candidate for one of the most exciting developments in skin rejuvenation technology: the SilkPeel Dermalinfusion system, available at the Mountain View plastic surgery practice of Dr. Ereso. SilkPeel is becoming more and more popular, thanks to its non-invasive approach and incredible results.

Learn more about SilkPeel and what it can achieve. Contact Peggy or Jez to schedule an appointment with Carol, Dr. Ereso’s fabulous and experienced aesthetician, and discuss the treatment in detail.

What Is the SilkPeel?

SilkPeel Dermalinfusion is a non-surgical treatment to improve common flaws in the skin. During SilkPeel treatment, the outer layers of damaged skin are removed to reveal fresh, healthy skin underneath. This is accomplished through gentle exfoliation and the delivery of skin-specific topical serums. Safe and painless, the SilkPeel produces optimal results quickly, without the discomfort and risks associated with more invasive treatment options.

What Can SilkPeel Dermalinfusion Help?

The SilkPeel Dermalinfusion system can treat a variety of skin imperfections, including the following:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Red, blotchy skin
  • Dry, flaky skin
  • Areas of sun damage
  • Acne blemishes and scarring
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Uneven texture

In order to achieve the best results, SilkPeel treatment should only be performed by knowledgeable skincare professionals. Dr. Ereso and our team have many years of experience evaluating the skin problems of a diverse group of patients, and recommending customized solutions. SilkPeel treatment has been a wonderful addition to our skincare repertoire.

What to Expect During Treatment

SilkPeels are performed on an outpatient basis at Dr. Ereso’s practice. Prior to treatment, the facial skin will be thoroughly cleansed and prepped.

First, a topical treatment serum is applied to the skin. The specific formula is chosen based on your unique skin concerns. Then, the SilkPeel handpiece is moved across the face. The handpiece will exfoliate the outer layers of the skin, gently suction away dead skin cells and infuse the skin with the treatment serum. The serum penetrates the outer dermis to nourish the deeper layers of the skin with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Unlike traditional microdermabrasion, the SilkPeel system does not use a crystal or abrasive chemicals, so treatment is comfortable. In fact, most patients have described treatment as a relaxing experience.

SilkPeel treatment does not require any downtime. Following your appointment, you can return to your everyday routine. Be careful to avoid exposing your face to the sun, as it may be slightly sensitive. Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your face from the sun’s rays.

After treatment, you will notice your skin feels smoother and looks much more vibrant and lustrous. To maintain your results, our team recommends repeat treatments. We would be happy to put together a customized maintenance schedule for your convenience.

Protecting Your Skin With TNS by SkinMedica

Dr. Ereso and our skin care team are pleased to offer a range of luxurious skin care products, including the SkinMedica TNS line. These products are specially formulated to repair skin damage, promote healthy cellular function and protect the skin from harmful elements.

TNS products rely on growth factor technology to erase visible signs of aging around the face. Growth factors are special proteins that trigger the production of new cells, collagen and elastin – all of which are vital to improving the appearance of the skin. They also contain traditional anti-aging ingredients, proteins and collagen. The combination of these ingredients changes the quality of the skin from the inside out, making it stronger and less susceptible to outside elements such as the sun.

What Does SkinMedica Treat?

SkinMedica products can be used to improve the appearance of the following:

  • Fine lines
  • Deep creases and lines
  • Dark spots and patches
  • Loss of skin firmness
  • Uneven skin tone

SkinMedica’s TNS product line includes the following options:

  • Essential Serum to smooth wrinkles, brighten spots and patches, and firm and tone the skin

  • Eye Repair cream to nourish, smooth, firm and plump the eye area; to reduce crow’s feet; to tone sagging eyelids; and to brighten dark circles

Your Partner in Skin Care

SkinMedica products are not sold in retail locations like Sephora or Ulta; they are only available through an approved physician’s office. Dr. Ereso and our aesthetician, Carol McDonald, have a unique understanding of the body’s healing and restructuring processes and use their expertise to recommend suitable SkinMedica products for your needs.

We will analyze your current skin care routine and skin condition, and ask you about your skin care goals (e.g., fewer wrinkles, more even skin tone). Based on this information and information about certain lifestyle factors, we will put together a customized product regimen to help you achieve and maintain your best skin yet.
